Insearch of New Dimensions
Prakash Joshi is a veteran Mumbai journalist and a self taught artist working on natural forms for last 25 years. No fancy schools to learn the fine nuances of journalism or the subleties of abstract art forms. Keen observation, sensitivie nature, hard work and the father figure guidance of painting greats like Ara helped him to turn hobby into a passion which saw him draw more than 20,000 sketches over the years.
In the process he experimented with new and abstract forms which show an underlying streak of a radical in him. Visits to art galleries in Munich, Prague, Berline, Frankfurt, Zurich, Kuala Lampore, Singapore, Seoul and interaction with fellow artists helped give a new perspective and fine tune his sketches.
He has two books to his credit. “Maitrinichi Goshta” (story of a friend) published in 1984 is a collection of short stories published in major Marathi magazines including Satyakatha, Sadhana, Shrishabda and included his sketches.
The second book “Gateway” is collection of impressions of a sensitive writer who explores complexities and contradictions of urban living in Mumbai metropolis, accompanied by thought provoking sketches. The book was released by poet Mangesh Padgaonkar in 2002. Spontaneous praise for the sketches had sown seeds for what is Prakash Joshi's first exhibition of sketches and paintings. His paintings have already found small but dedicated following among art lovers and celebrities. |
